Full form of IPS is the Indian Police Service. This is among the three government services in India. The year was 1948 when IPS was formed. IPS is under the control of the home ministry.
IPS Exam Detail
The Indian Police Service examination is a part of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) each year. UPSC i.e. union public service commission conducts IPS exam every year. This exam is one of the CSE i.e. civil services examinations.

UPSC conducts various exams every year for the various government and defence departments. One of them is the IPS exam. Every year lakhs of candidates apply for IPS exam.
There are three stages of exams. First is the preliminary exam. After clearing this they go for the main examination and after clearing the main exam they are called for personality test. The selection process for IPS starts in June and ends in April. Merit list is released in the month of May. This is a national level exam and
candidates have to give the offline exam. This exam is taken for 24 services and candidates are given the chance of 6 attempts to clear the exam. Though lakhs of students apply for IPS exam only 800 approx vaccines are out.

Candidate should be Citizen of India.
Age limit for IPS exam
For general categories, the minimum age is 21 years and the maximum is 32 years. Some relaxation is given to other categories. For SC/ ST 5 years relaxation is given. For OBC 3 year’s relaxation, for disabled during defence
services 3 years relaxation is given and for ex-serviceman, 5 years relaxation is given.
Educational Qualifications for IPS exam
The aspirant should be graduate from a recognized university.
Salary for IPS
IPS officers get 56100 rs monthly in the beginning. This increases with the officer rank. As per the post it varies, for example, Director-General of Police get 2,25,000.00 INR per month, Additional Director General of Police get 2,05,400.00 INR, Inspector-General of Police get 1,44,200.00 INR, Deputy Inspector General of Police get 1,31,100.00 INR, Senior Superintendent of Police get 78,800.00 INR, Additional Superintendent of Police get 67,700.00 INR and Deputy Superintendent of Police gets 56,100.00 INR.
